We
Participants in this civilization
Far beyond borders of nation or continent or color or creed
Live as if the world belongs to us
All other species live as if they belong to the world
Our ancestors as a species lived as if they belonged to the world
Which allowed us to be born
As we know ourselves
There are still a few corners of the earth
Where our brothers and sisters
Of species
Yet not culture
Still survive
Living as if they belong to the world
They have not exhiled themselves
From the garden of Eden
They remind us that it is not a human sickness
To live as if the world belongs to us
It is a cultural sickness
Which is good news
Because we are humans
Before we are civilians
And can heal
And remember
And wake up
Because we belong to the world
And it takes such abundant care of us
And our people
When we stop trying to enslave it to us
And allow it to love
