Peace is Here

When our resistance to war
Is stronger than our perpetuation of peace
War continues

When war surrounds us
And people are killing our brothers and sisters
And then pretending they are our “leaders”
And pretending they “represent us”
The anger and rage and frustration and sorrow and fear we carry in response
Perpetuates war

Today
We carry peace in our hearts
Love and compassion
Not just for those that it is easy to love and be compassionate towards
But also to those it is seemingly impossible to love and be compassionate for
My heart holds all the men
And women
In this world
That have not felt the transformative powers of love
And have not touched the place in the center that reminds us that we are ok and have all we need
And therefore still cling to murder
Greed
And fear
As tools to achieve
What their egos justify
As worthy of such poison.

War
Is a chemical weapon
For what are we made of
But chemicals?
And what is released in the bodies of soldiers
And victims
And families
And bystanders
As witnesses
When hatred
Fear
And violence surround?

My brothers and sisters
Peace is here now
And it’s where I choose to live
Not with eyes and ears closed to the chaos of the world
But wide open to it
Heart wide open
Hands
Arms
Soul
Wide open
With immense
Immeasurable
Infinite
Love
